~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Hello darkness, my old friend...
Name: Eike
Star Position: Chisui Star (The Fulfilled Star)
Age and Birthday: 35 years (game continuity time ) aged 40 years (RP time)
Appearance and personality: Eike is an intimidating and gloomy man with extremely unusual features and personality. He has frightened men trained as knights easily three times larger than himself without even lifting a finger. Likewise and despite, he has never been violent physically since arriving to Budehuc, long ago. Nobody knows how far eike could be pushed, nobody has seen his violent side, and really, nobody wants to, ever. Eike has a skeletal appearance with grossly exaggerated facial features and grotesquely protuding cheekbones, wispy limp and dull ash brown hair, and a listless scowl filled with some form of morosity, it is never fully removed at any point, even at the rare instance that eike may become happy. Some imagine that his smile would look more pained and difficult to maintain, if anybody have ever really seen him express one in more than a half-hearted, weak attempt at expression. Only three people at Budehuc have ever seen eike express some feeling better and more than angry or upset--Cecile, Thomas and Muto. A highly eccentric and private man of his work, Eike is in a constant state of observance and introspection. Many believe that he suffers from some manner of psychosis, possibly even being comorbid in his mental state. He never often participates in any social gathering other than his fulfilling S.R.S meetings, however they have become less common in the passing years, and his state of fulfillment that had once been had, has not been in around two years. He doesn't seem to have much of a concept of time, eike has been known to accidentally (according to him) stay awake for several nights, his record being a mystery to others. If asked he would be able to recall the amount of time that he had stayed awake hoever, with crystal clarity. His mind is an enigma, its inner machinations a mystery sometimes even to himself. He has feared over his own history that he is 'split-minded', often trancing out of reality, often uncontrollably, for any given period of time. He has, since three years ago, stopped apologizing for this mannerism--and he never seems to think that anybody cares about his well-being ever. He is dubious when it comes to a class of self-esteem: Nobody can pinpoint whether h has any or not. He is capable, very capable, and highly intelligent--unlike many with a low self-esteem who doubt they can do anything, eike acts almost mechanical in nature with any task he's handed--as if it has already been mastered by the man. He has however, shown to this date, no eclectic talents. If they had any thought of it in their minds however, people may not doubt that eike could master a musical instrument or a paintbrush if it were his intention or in his interest to learn such abilities. A silent and troubled man, he has the ability to bring people so far down into the pits of sadness that more often than to avoid his outright ugly and bizarre appearance, they would avoid him for his odd mannerisms and damnable abilities to snuff out an optimistic persons sense of vivaciousness and zest for the day in general. He is a living almanac, many pluses lurking in an otherwise pessimistic and inwardly cynical man with a morbid life view and a thousand volumes worth of negative personality traits--he could tell you just about anything you needed to know in an instant, castle denizens have confirmed to themselves that the man has fully memorized all of the books he keeps in his library and more in his forty year lifetime, because of this astounding wealth of knowledge couple with his bizarre appearance and mannerisms, people often also presume that eike is not human in the least. It doesn't help that he also has a knack for locomotion without sound, he is highly stealthy and has been judged by Ace of the Twelfth Unit, to have no detectable aura whatsoever. The observance though, to him, could be summed up realistically however he has never offered up an explanation and doesn't intend to. As said before, he is a private man of an occupational mindset and is a textbook Scorpio in every sense that he can both keep his life the only unopened book in his library, and his emotions under padlock and key. And underneath that, combination. He has however, allowed a certain facet of kindness and a few less preferred number of emotions slip out in what can only be aptly described as a ghost or wisp of a definable emotion, his emotions have been 98% strong and hard felt only to himself. He may have had a tragic past. It is a known fact that he has seen more death than many and has perhaps at one point been better looking, maybe it was those strong emotions that ravaged his appearance. It has been stated somewhere that emotions held within wreak havoc on the body. He may have caused himself this disservice, plagued himself into looking so moribund. Another theory is that he could have looked rather odd and unattractive his whole life, leading to him growing up as a secular sentient being, perpetually alone; he has said that "books are friends for life". You may sum this up to repeated rejection from past peers leading to a disassociative personality and a belief that ones own company and fulfillment can be found within oneself only, and his hobbies. His rarely heard voice is equal and fitting to his appearance and personality to a "T": It has been described as soft, deep and quiet--rarely heard above 40 decibels, and 40 is pushing it. Poetically it could be described as lachrymose and monotonous, more often businesslike and formal however with frequent pauses between any length of formulated sentencing, but with a barely noticeable lilt in vocal accentuation. His voice can almost be as sad as his expression. He can also be empathic however, once when Headmaster Thomas had first come to Budehuc, he noticed the crige the boy had when interacting with him face to face, so eike spared thomas the shock again by keeping his back to him, acting as though he was too busy to look away from his books. The care became apparent when after their interaction, eike thanked thomas very much, for misty reasons other than the inference that eike was happy that the good boy thomas, had turned around Budehuc's bleak state of disrepair. It has been around six or seven years since then and all things considered, eike has grown greatly since then.
Weapons: He doesn't use them. He probably doesn't need them.
Skills/Special Abilities: A class C appraiser and deadly good librarian and accountant, when needed. On top of a living almanac, Sebastian claims that the man is also a living calculator. Thats not a surprise.
Other Abilities: Indefinite. Possibly expansive. He doesn't seem to have a knack for anything though, simply replying "I can't do everything..." when asked to do something outside of the norm.
Runes: No known runes equipped. Kids have quipped around the castle that he probably has a stealth or undeath rune equipped. Resident ninjas and zombies are skeptical.
Weaknesses: The only observed weaknesses would be his physical strength and tolerance for sarcasm. Nobody knows whether he is physically weak or not though, its assumed by his dystrophy-riddled looking body; but he does have a strong handshake and can lift weight he shouldn't be able to--it can be assumed that its a mind-over-matter thing, so really if his body was weak, his mind is strong, perhaps even strong enough to overpower some facet that should otherwise limit him. He doesn't express any physical strength unless he has to though.
History: Vague and theoretical at best. Nobody knows the truth of eike's past as he's so private. The only known fact of his past is that he's lived at Budehuc for years, Cecile and Sebastian know he's witnessed a lot of death in the past, but nobody else knows that for sure. He may have asked her to keep it a secret, and it isn't remembered why the topic ever came up by anyone other than eike, and he probably wouldn't tell if you asked him.
Rumors ((as documented by the mun)): Rumors about eike are abound--he isn't a popular man but rather a curiosity and it bothers the fire out of him.
Zombie: The first and most obvious rumor. It could be destroyed in an instant if eike consented to a physical. He wouldn't want to disprove the albeit annoying rumor however, he doesn't feel that he should need to.
Vampire: Possible, again typical and too obvious. If Konami wants to state that yeah, he is a vampire---I don't care. Whatever. They're way overused in every sense. Besides, vampires seem to be lusty. They are lust. They're an embodiment of lust. Again it could be self control on eike's part due to his intelligence and awareness of his own primal mechanism, but he doesn't seem to lust after anything but papyrus parchment and india ink bound together, edited and published in 108 languages---unabridged.
Ghost: Mostly due to his lack of aura and the way he almost seems to appear in places. Damning evidence is his mysterious method of getting to the lowest level of Budehuc when the elevator was jammed. Logically though, if anybody thought of Geography at all, is that most caves man made or natural, have ground level openings that can give access. Bats ((and MOTHS, hello? )) use them all the time. Also, Budehuc doesn't seem to be the flooded type, where would the water go? Eike's mun lives in a cavernous and mountainous place not unlike the topography of the Zexen/Grasslands---eike's muns yard is riddled with caves underneath her land and standing water magically disappears into the small HOLES that are in the grass and bedrocks that lead down into said caves. How do you think stalagtites/mites form? Calcfication and water. This rumor can be disproved on many levels, and to her it isn't mysterious in the least how access could be possible despite elevator busting.
Feline?: Silly silly silly. There are no feline features. I don't know where I heard this but if eike were a feline, even hybrid, MAYBE even werecat---it may be more apparent. He'd have tendencies other than silence as a were ANYTHING that would mimic the animal splicing--and cats sleep a lot. Eike doesn't seem to sleep too much and when he does its not like a cat. Not like an animal definitely, period. Okay, think preoccupation. Think horridly active mind. Ever be kept up by your thoughts? Ever seen a recently traumatized person OR traumatically troubled person sleep? They have odd mannerisms. I should know, I have some of the same problems he does while sleeping. I don't move, I rarely move at rest at all. I also tend to spout nonsense while sleeping too. Many people do this. It's common. Eyes half open? Also observed IN HUMANS. No way. Yeah. Think about it kids. I've seen older people sleep with their eyes FULLY open. It also leads to red-rimmed and sticky-looking eyes, somewhat like eike's, if people sleep like that as a habit. I've seen my nephew sleep like this before, hell--so have I. O_o No, eike isn't some kind of animal or demon or monster as people PAINFULLY assume, I would think, most likely that his sleeping mannerisms are due to some form of deep-seeded mental psychosis. But then again I tend to think less fantastically than most, despite the MAH-GEE-CULL world that Suikoden is.
Painfully Normal: Now this I can believe. In fact I like to see eike in thomas, actually. To me, maybe at one point eike was just like thomas--a painfully ordinary guy, torn by tragedy after tragedy. Perhaps he "can't" do what he's obviously capable of a lot of times not because he doesn't want to help, but perhaps all the tragedy in his life made him feel like accomplishment was at one point, impossible. I mean come now, how helpless do you FEEL when someone you know dies and you can't prevent it? Even worse, has anybody ELSE been exposed to the trauma of knowing you may have been able o prevent a death if you had allowed JUST ONE thing to happen? But instead you said 'no', because even though you had a couple hours to pack, you had a vacation and a bus to catch in the morning? We're not talking hypothetically by the way. True story. So concerning eike, this is VERY believable. o can see war screwing someone up, especially if they started out sensitive and empathic in life, like thomas is.
Another realistic rumor: Maybe he was so unattractive in his life, that he never had any friends at all. This would make someone isolated and hopeless. Look at Hans Christian Anderson, the famous author of "The Ugly Duckling". Apparently when the man finally got to go to school and et an education he was a little older than his classmates and was shunned and scorned for being "unattractive", so he was always alone and very self-conscious. When interviewed once, Andersen was asked if he was going to want to have or write his own biography. He replied that it had already been written, in the tale of "The Ugly Duckling".
Soldier: HIGHLY speculative, and a rumor I came up with on my own, perhaps eike was a soldier in some manner once in life. Some soldiers were prized for their lithe builds for their elasticity and speed---eike seems to have very keen eyes. Archer? Fencer? Going out on a limb---mage? That also brings up another rumor: Maybe eike IS a book. Funny, VERY funny to picture but bear with. It's one I find more dubious but perhaps eike has some magical abilities and doesn't use them too much or at all anymore for various reasons---ala "Voldemort" perhaps that black book he carries around is his Horcrux? Thats not an HP related tale anyways, it has been a constant that in history warlocks witches and druis would "magically" place pieces of their souls or their entire soul, in an object or animals for protection. In King Arthur tales, Mordred placed his soul into a Raven horcrux and thereby saved himself for death entirely when his human body died, he was that raven.
Little Black Book: Realistic and based on eike's reaction to rejection in the romeo and juliet play, as romeo. You and I both know what a "little black book" is. :3 I think its a cute but most likely incorrect rumor. I came up with this one too. It makes me laugh to think eike's prized small black book is filled with all the women (men?) he had known and loved , applying eike to Hans Andersen again---Hans was speculated as bisexual and the majority of people are, to some extent. Thats by no means meaning I would go the typical route that many fanpeople go by stating the eike would be gay or bi with no definitive proof. You have to do something to be something. Personally I like to think that that sort of thing hasn't been thought about in well over ten years by eike, and maybe on a more pessimistic day he deemed procreation as unwanted and unnecessary on his part, perhaps as a coping mechanism? Again, I can relate.
Cursed birth: Probably the most well-known theorem out there is this one. By a girl only known as "del!", but why wouldn't it be well known? I helped her pimp it out for a while before there was a social falling out that I'm still in the dark about. Anyhoo, it involves eike inheriting a curse via his father's adultery and failed appeasment of and with a succubus--which caused all of eikes fathers children to be born as one form of any number of horrible beasts. In this story, eike kills his mother during birth and lives a very tortured an imprisoned life as such a beast, until he gains control of his apparent shape-shifting abilities and becomes some bastardized version of a human. Everything seems plausible in this one, except for one thing I still don't understand---if eike's beast-brain operates like a humans and learns like a human, after age five years ((ten or fifteen years due to his extended age?)) he would be daftly unable to learn any form of language. He had no one to imitate in a prison, a book and the shouldn't have been able to make sense of due to unrepeated linguistic usage, you'll pik up verbal before mental linguistic properties so if he didn't start learning by this age I promise it would be next to impossible and most likely indeed impossible for him to extend his abilities past that of an orangutan as far as language, and he would certainly need extensively polished or idiot savantism or autism to a abominable level to be able to store away and learn multiple languages like he has in the story. I'm not by any means attacking the tale because it is made of awesome, but thats one thing my researches in anthro-psycho-cerebral sciences uncovered while creating a character for a storyboard that I work on with friends. The character I created is brain damaged and I had to research into the linguistic cortices of a human brain and I found out some shocking stuff about the mechanism of the Wernicke's and Broca's area, and a correlation between them and the temporal lobe. Theres another chunk of damning evidence contrary; memory, language and music go together like peas and carrots. If eike's memory is THAT amazing and it is; he would have amazing linguistics too most likely...if he had no language due to disuse he'd also have a more fried memory unless based sorely on imagery like the brain tends to compensate for when loss of language or muteness is apparent. He could have that amazing memory, but none of it would be so well voiced unless he had also had a training in language BEFORE age five. But of course the author of the tale and rumor could just say "he's made of metal" and leave it there but the brain busting that we nerds like to do may leave fans disappointed. In any case, heres another rumor thats out there about eike, and here's what I've concluded.
Autism: Ever see rain man? Ever known an Asperger's autistic? High functioning autistics often have SHOCKING memories. They are almost always good with recording and storing information like numbers, books and images and sometimes faces; and will remember what they store all their life. In the real rain man, his Corpus Callosum is non-existent. It never formed, and its the membrane between the two halves of his brain that helps sift and separate info. The real rain man has ONE brain, no halves. Maybe eike is similar? Autistics are also often VERY eccentric and quirky on top of this. I can see how with would be possible for eike to be a higher functioning autistic; autism and insanity runs in my family so I've seen a lot of that. And it hasn't been disproven in me, either. :3 Which brings me to...
Insanity and comorbidity: Is he crazy? There is a fine line between genius and insanity as they say too often, the difference being contribution. You're a genius if you contribute something significant with your exaggerated intelligence but you're insane if you go stale and obsess over your obsessions to no end. High intellects have been known to have sleep issues mainly due to their obsessive problems which leads o chronic sleep loss, and that can make any person crazy. Try staying up for 48 hours, you'll be loopy. To me, eike could simply be a man who suffers from any number of the insanity plagues or autism, possibly insanity could be more than one illness. He could be schizophrenic with obsessive-compulsive tendencies. It hasn't been proven in me and I reiterate that my family is plagued by comorbidity and insanity and mental things, but I do exhibit some hard laid compulsive issues ((does it show too much by this here and my 200+ piece art gallery? )) so again, I know what I'm saying. Also without treatment a lot of mental illnesses are degenerative, a person with schizophrenia will often look RAVAGED from their illness with non-treatment. They look nothing like how they used to. I know, my aunt was schizophrenic and she USED to be model beautiful before the disease ravaged her--she looked something like my hero Stephen Hawking before she died. hey treated her illness, but they didn't, you know? Shock therapy and thorazine SUCKS for treatment, but thats what they used in the 60's and 70's. So, insanity seems possible concerning eike.
It makes me laugh to think eike's prized small black book is filled with all the women (men?) he had known and loved , applying eike to Hans Andersen again---Hans was speculated as bisexual and the majority of people are, to some extent. Thats by no means meaning I would go the typical route that many fanpeople go by stating the eike would be gay or bi with no definitive proof. You have to do something to be something. Personally I like to think that that sort of thing hasn't been thought about in well over ten years by eike, and maybe on a more pessimistic day he deemed procreation as unwanted and unnecessary on his part, perhaps as a coping mechanism? Again, I can relate.
Cursed birth: Probably the most well-known theorem out there is this one. By a girl only known as "del!", but why wouldn't it be well known? I helped her pimp it out for a while before there was a social falling out that I'm still in the dark about. Anyhoo, it involves eike inheriting a curse via his father's adultery and failed appeasment of and with a succubus--which caused all of eikes fathers children to be born as one form of any number of horrible beasts. In this story, eike kills his mother during birth and lives a very tortured an imprisoned life as such a beast, until he gains control of his apparent shape-shifting abilities and becomes some bastardized version of a human. Everything seems plausible in this one, except for one thing I still don't understand---if eike's beast-brain operates like a humans and learns like a human, after age five years ((ten or fifteen years due to his extended age?)) he would be daftly unable to learn any form of language. He had no one to imitate in a prison, a book and the shouldn't have been able to make sense of due to unrepeated linguistic usage, you'll pik up verbal before mental linguistic properties so if he didn't start learning by this age I promise it would be next to impossible and most likely indeed impossible for him to extend his abilities past that of an orangutan as far as language, and he would certainly need extensively polished or idiot savantism or autism to a abominable level to be able to store away and learn multiple languages like he has in the story. I'm not by any means attacking the tale because it is made of awesome, but thats one thing my researches in anthro-psycho-cerebral sciences uncovered while creating a character for a storyboard that I work on with friends. The character I created is brain damaged and I had to research into the linguistic cortices of a human brain and I found out some shocking stuff about the mechanism of the Wernicke's and Broca's area, and a correlation between them and the temporal lobe. Theres another chunk of damning evidence contrary; memory, language and music go together like peas and carrots. If eike's memory is THAT amazing and it is; he would have amazing linguistics too most likely...if he had no language due to disuse he'd also have a more fried memory unless based sorely on imagery like the brain tends to compensate for when loss of language or muteness is apparent. He could have that amazing memory, but none of it would be so well voiced unless he had also had a training in language BEFORE age five. But of course the author of the tale and rumor could just say "he's made of metal" and leave it there but the brain busting that we nerds like to do may leave fans disappointed. In any case, heres another rumor thats out there about eike, and here's what I've concluded.
Autism: Ever see rain man? Ever known an Asperger's autistic? High functioning autistics often have SHOCKING memories. They are almost always good with recording and storing information like numbers, books and images and sometimes faces; and will remember what they store all their life. In the real rain man, his Corpus Callosum is non-existent. It never formed, and its the membrane between the two halves of his brain that helps sift and separate info. The real rain man has ONE brain, no halves. Maybe eike is similar? Autistics are also often VERY eccentric and quirky on top of this. I can see how with would be possible for eike to be a higher functioning autistic; autism and insanity runs in my family so I've seen a lot of that. And it hasn't been disproven in me, either. :3 Which brings me to...
Insanity and comorbidity: Is he crazy? There is a fine line between genius and insanity as they say too often, the difference being contribution. You're a genius if you contribute something significant with your exaggerated intelligence but you're insane if you go stale and obsess over your obsessions to no end. High intellects have been known to have sleep issues mainly due to their obsessive problems which leads o chronic sleep loss, and that can make any person crazy. Try staying up for 48 hours, you'll be loopy. To me, eike could simply be a man who suffers from any number of the insanity plagues or autism, possibly insanity could be more than one illness. He could be schizophrenic with obsessive-compulsive tendencies. It hasn't been proven in me and I reiterate that my family is plagued by comorbidity and insanity and mental things, but I do exhibit some hard laid compulsive issues ((does it show too much by this here and my 200+ piece art gallery? )) so again, I know what I'm saying. Also without treatment a lot of mental illnesses are degenerative, a person with schizophrenia will often look RAVAGED from their illness with non-treatment. They look nothing like how they used to. I know, my aunt was schizophrenic and she USED to be model beautiful before the disease ravaged her--she looked something like my hero Stephen Hawking before she died. hey treated her illness, but they didn't, you know? Shock therapy and thorazine SUCKS for treatment, but thats what they used in the 60's and 70's. So, insanity seems possible concerning eike.
